RVA PMR Facilities

RVA PMR delivers physician-led Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) services that are tailored to the needs of the individual facility. Our model is designed to integrate seamlessly into your existing care structure, providing high-quality rehabilitation expertise without adding to your facility’s financial burden.

Service Models
Our consulting and attending physiatrist service models are designed to deliver expert rehabilitation care across multiple settings. In inpatient rehabilitation hospitals, we function as the attending physicians, overseeing all aspects of patient care and ensuring a comprehensive, coordinated approach to recovery. In acute care hospitals and skilled nursing facilities, we provide specialized consultative services, offering recommendations and managing rehabilitative care plans that support optimal outcomes. As the medical experts in rehabilitation, we guide patients, families, and care teams through evidence-based strategies that restore function, improve independence, and enhance quality of life.
InPatient Rehabilitation Hospitals

In this setting, physiatrists serve as the lead providers, directly overseeing the patient’s care throughout their stay. They coordinate the interdisciplinary rehabilitation team, manage medical needs, and guide therapy plans to ensure patients make measurable progress toward independence and safe discharge.

Here, physiatrists act as consulting physicians. Their role is to assess patients who have completed the acute phase of treatment and determine the most appropriate level of post-acute care. They provide recommendations that ensure patients transition smoothly into rehabilitation services that best match their recovery needs.

In skilled nursing, physiatrists provide consultative care focused on optimizing rehabilitation and recovery. They make recommendations regarding therapy services, rehabilitation modalities, adaptive devices, and medication management. Their involvement helps improve outcomes and supports patients in regaining function while addressing complex medical needs.

In long-term care, physiatrists also serve in a consulting role similar to skilled nursing. They focus on maintaining or improving residents’ functional abilities by recommending rehabilitation services, managing medications, and identifying necessary adaptive equipment. Their oversight ensures residents receive individualized support to promote quality of life.
