Critical Illness Myopathy (CIM) and ICU-acquired weakness are common complications following prolonged intensive care resulting in widespread muscle weakness, including weakness of the limbs and respiratory muscles. These conditions can make it difficult to wean from a ventilator and regain independence in everyday activities.
Your recovery begins with a comprehensive evaluation by a team of physicians, therapists, nurses, and specialists. We assess your muscle strength, respiratory function, and mobility to create a rehabilitation plan tailored to your condition and goals.
Factors such as limiting the use of certain medications when appropriate or vitamin deficiencies are identified, managing these effectively can help slow progression
Proactive treatment prevents further nerve or muscle damage
Ensuring proper nutrition to support healing and strength
Exercises are introduced early to preserve muscle function
Walking, balance training, and functional tasks that support daily independence are added to your recovery plan
Breathing exercises help rebuild respiratory muscle strength and support ventilator weaning
Additional therapies may be used to improve lung function and endurance
Your progress and adjust your therapy plan as needed
Some patients make steady improvements over weeks and others progress over a longer period
Start your recovery with expert care
